Writing justifications that match the line

Writing justifications that match the line

A justification paragraph is not decoration. It is the bridge between a requested amount and a reader who was not in the room when the need was discussed.

Match nouns to numbers

If the line asks for roof repair funds, name the building, the leak history, and the estimate source. If the line funds contracted outreach, name the activities and the months they cover. Abstract adjectives (“critical,” “strategic”) rarely survive a second reading.

Prior-year context without apology

When a line jumps sharply, say what changed: volume, price, or scope. Silence reads like evasion even when the increase is legitimate.

Length is not virtue

Three precise sentences outperform a page of general mission language. In narrative reviews we often recommend cuts before additions.
